My Vikings Man Cave

Welcome to my Vikings Man Cave!  Though I live in Western Wisconsin, I am a die-hard Vikings fan.  My dad grew up in Minnesota, and his enthusiasm for the Vikings rubbed off on me.  Skol, Vikings!

Over the past 10 years, it has been great fun to search for and find unique Vikings memorabilia and display them in the man cave.  For several birthdays and Christmases, I have asked family, relatives, and friends for Vikings “stuff”, and as you can see by the gallery photos, the man cave has grown considerably!

It has become a great environment to watch a Vikings game - previously the room was rarely used; now it has become a focal point for family life.

Displaying Items

The actual displaying of jerseys, helmets, pictures, etc. in the Vikings man cave has become a fun hobby in itself.  How does one use walls, ceiling, and tables to maximum effect?  How does one make it an artistic endeavor, not just a mish-mash of “stuff”?  How to display items really gets the creative juices going!

Signing Events

Another part of this adventure is attending Viking signing events.  There are a number of venues in the Twin Cities that regularly schedule former and active players to sign.  Meeting and greeting these players, having a photo taken with them, and having them sign a Vikings jersey or helmet is a real highlight.  I have also traveled to the Viking training camp in Mankato two or three times each of the past several years.  Each summer I have averaged about 15 autographs - all of these items are proudly displayed in the Vikings man cave.  Mingling with other Viking fans and watching team practices is one of my favorite activities of the summer.  I look forward to experiencing their new facility in Eagan next year.

Vikings Man Cave Favorites

As you peruse the photo gallery, let me mention a few of my favorite things:

  • There are several full size helmets signed, mostly the traditional purple, but also custom white, gold, and black. It adds a lot of unique color to the room.  In addition, a number of them have alternative decals rather than the usual white horn.  Even Viking players have commented how “sweet” these are!
  • Most of our mini-helmets are housed in 2 glass cases, which hold 16 each. They are mounted on both sides of the TV and give the room a symmetrical feel.
  • The 2 mannequins are a big hit - they give a feel of “motion” to the room. One is a kicker - I have dressed him with an autographed #14 Fred Cox jersey; the other is a running back - dressed with an Adrian Peterson autographed jersey, helmet, football and gloves.
  • I have well over 50 autographed glossy 8 x 10 Viking action photos. They form a border that connects from wall to wall.  It is displayed as a time continuum - from 1961 to 2017.
  • A Minnesota artist, Ryan Fors, is featured throughout the Vikings man cave. I have secured several of his art prints and have most of them autographed.  Many of them are canvas stretched as well.
  • I have over 60 autographed jerseys - they are my favorite. They adorn the walls and ceiling; many are framed.  Included are jerseys both home and away, as well as jerseys representing several pro bowls.
  • The Vikings man cave includes a signed picture, jersey, mini-helmet and full size helmet of each Viking Hall of Fame player.
  • To give the room a more “stadium” feel, there is a Chuck Foreman signed Metropolitan Stadium chair, and a Fran Tarkenton signed Metrodome chair.
  • The Purple People Eaters are a huge part of Viking history - and they are well represented in the Vikings man cave - with signed jerseys, helmets, photos, artwork and bobbleheads.
  • The adjoining bathroom is adorned with wooden and metal artwork of the famous Viking logo.
  • Finally, one of my favorites is the signed game used equipment. There are game used cleats of Daunte Culpepper, Harrison Smith, and Gary Zimmerman; jersey of Matt Birk; pants of Ryan Longwell; and gloves of Harrison Smith.

My man cave has become a favorite tribute to my favorite team, the Minnesota Vikings!  I hope you have as much fun as I did in building your man cave - Good Luck!
